KEPALA BATAS, March 7  — Police have launched investigations into an alleged assault of a Year Six student on Thursday.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said police would be investigating the case for voluntarily causing hurt and would be calling up a teacher at the school to assist with investigations.

Zukir urged the public not to speculate on the incident until police concluded
the probe.

On Saturday, Jamsari Mohamad Hassan, 46, said his son, 12-year-old Khairul Najwan, was beaten up by a senior assistant for supposedly arriving late to the school’s morning assembly and riding a “modified” bicycle.

Jamsari said the teacher stopped his son at the entrance when he was cycling into the school and allegedly took exception to the boy’s “fancy” bicycle in addition to him being late to school. The teacher then started beating the student.

Jamsari said his son ran out of the school but the teacher and security guards caught him and brought him back.

He also alleged the teacher later gave the boy RM2 to keep quiet about the incident.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has suggested the school and the district education department settle the case amicably.

“The school and the parents should sit together with the district education department to find a solution,” he said.

State education department liaison chairman Sabri Osman said they would investigate the matter as the allegations are serious.

“We need to look at it from all perspectives before making any conclusion,” he said.
