KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak gave an assurance today that he will have a talk with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over his administration’s decision to take in 1.5 million Bangladeshis to fill a massive worker shortage in industries deemed dirty, dangerous and difficult (3D).

Najib has been away in California the past few days for a meeting with US President Barack Obama and other South-east Asian leaders to discuss trade and other regional affairs.

“Let me discuss with Zahid when I get back,” he was quoted by The Star Online as saying in San Francisco, in response to domestic objections to the government’s plans.

The news portal reported the PM also saying his administration’s decisions are for the country’s economy.

Putrajaya is facing resistance and criticism from several civil and trade groups over its plan to bring in the foreign workers that it said was needed for the 3D jobs that Malaysians are purportedly snubbing.

Around 50 members from the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) protested outside the government complex housing the Home and Human Resource Ministries this morning condemning the government move.
