SANTUBONG, Feb 15 — The leadership style of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem which has been acclaimed by various parties since taking over the reins of state two years ago, is being proposed to be used as a model and guide to groom young competent leaders.

State Resource Planning and Environment Minister II Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ahli Hassan said Adenan’s leadership style, or ‘#theAdenanWay’, should serve as a guide towards a leadership style that was caring, courageous, straightforward, and dignified.

“I am not suggesting that our youth become like Tok Denan (Adenan), however, I believe his values and leadership style that is being straightforward and courageous, without fear or favor, open-minded and humble, should be among the models to become future leaders to be reckoned with,” he said.

Awang Tengah, who is also senior vice-president of Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) said this during a youth forum on future leaders organised by the PBB Youth at the Century Santubong Beach Resort, about 40 kilometres from Kuching, last night.

According to him, the #theAdenanWay leadership style is a rare phenomenon, and the youth must take heed, if they wished to become great and respected future leaders of the country.

Awang Tengah also recommended for an academic chair, dubbed ‘#theAdenanWay leadership’ to be established at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) or at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak to study #theAdenanWay as an effective leadership style for generations to come.

“The earnestness of Tok Denan to improve things he considers inappropriate or wrong, is very impressive,” said Awang Tengah said, adding that youth should be inspired by the leadership style as a motivating factor in their careers. — Bernama
