IPOH, Feb 12 — Police have called up some people to record their statements in connection with the “surat kuning” (yellow letters)” allegedly issued to individuals using fake “Datuk’ titles.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said investigations on the matter were in progress and gave the assurance that the investigation papers would be ready soon.
“It is still in the preliminary stage, but we are focusing on the issue.
“We have called several people to record their statements to confirm the allegations, but there has been no arrests so far,” he told a media conference after witnessing a handing over of duties ceremony between the outgoing and incoming Perak police chiefs, here today.
Noor Rashid said police were investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
On the incident where an assemblyman was alleged to have fired a shot into the air during a visit to Kampung Sungai Papan, Gerik, last Jan 19, he said the police had taken the pistol for forensic analysis.
“We have opened an investigation paper under the Arms Act 1960,” he added.
On a report that a group of Temiar Orang Asli had lodged a report at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur that they were not allowed to lodge a report against the assemblyman at the Lenggong and Gerik police stations, Noor Rashid said an investigation was in progress.
He said action would be taken against the policemen concerned if there was no valid reason for them to refuse to take the report by the Orang Asli.
In another development, Noor Rashid said the police were closely monitoring the activities of suspected Daesh militant group in the country.
“We also monitor social websites and Facebook for information involving the Daesh,” he said, and advised youths not to be influenced by the group.
“Although the Daesh threat is serious, we have the capability to tackle the issue because of our vast experience,” he added. — Bernama
