KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Two men caught on closed-circuit television camera assaulting a female accountant during a robbery in an elevator have been arrested.
The 60-second recording has been making its round on social media since the incident took place at a condominium in Setapak Prima on October 17.
An accomplice, who acted as a getaway driver but was not seen on the video, was also detained together with five others, including a 16-year-old girl. The five are friends of the trio.
The video showed the 24-year-old acountant, who had just finished work, in the lift when two men entered.
She stood in front of the lift door while the men stood behind her. One of the men moved towards her and selected a floor before moving back to the rear of the lift.
As the lift door opened, the same man hit the woman’s face with his elbow, causing her to slam against the wall of the lift and she collapsed.
The men grabbed her handbag and tried to flee but the victim resisted, causing her to be assaulted and dragged out of the lift.
The men were seen checking their loot as they fled in a Honda CRV driven by their accomplice.
The accountant suffered two broken teeth and bruises on her body.
Police released photo-fits of the three suspects to the media.
Wangsa Maju police chief Supt Mohd Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the three men and their five friends, all unemployed, were arrested in three separate raids in Jalan Ipoh, Taman Setapak and Ukay Perdana on Wednesday.
“The three main suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and we are investigating to see if they were high on drugs when they assaulted the accountant,” he said.
Mohd Roy said the trio had had been linked to drug-related offences, armed robberies and snatch thefts.
He said the five friends also tested positive for methamphetamine.
“We are investigating if the teenage girl and the other four were also involved in robberies,” he said.
