KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — After about two months of haze engulfing the entire nation, air quality showed a significant improvement today.
Clean air and clear skies in most parts of the country allowed the public to return to outdoor activities.
The haze situation in the country is clearing up as more areas in the Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak recorded healthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) portal, as at 6 pm today, only 12 areas recorded moderate API, among them Banting (76), Cheras (69), Port Klang (66), Putrajaya (60), Kota Kinabalu (56) and Shah Alam (54).
Forty areas recorded healthy air quality level including Samarahan (50), Pasir Gudang (50), Port Dickson (49), Petaling Jaya (48), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (46), Bintulu and Miri (44).
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
