WANG KELIAN, May 31 — A human trafficking camp found near the Malaysia-Thailand border could be turned into a tourist attraction, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim suggested, following a visit to the site today.

The Star Online quoted the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department as saying, “Let tourists see where it all happened. With this as a new tourism spot, it will also deter human trafficking activities from taking place as there will be more people coming in and out.”

He added that he would discuss his idea with the police and the state government.

Shahidan described the camp, which is roughly the size of a football field, as “very nice” to the news portal, because it had facilities such as a surau, a mosque, a house for an imam and a vegetable farm.

He also urged the police to tell the people that the camps were not built by Malaysians because “the structures … show expertise”.
