KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 ― Sabah police will investigate local opposition party member David Orok for allegedly insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad but said they will tread lightly as the matter is “very sensitive”.
According to a report on The Star Online, Kota Kinabalu district police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said there is still no arrest warrant out yet for Orok, who is a member of the Sabah-based State Reform Party (Star) member.
Orok courted controversy recently by insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad on his Facebook page.
He has since posted an apology on the same page, claiming the earlier posting was incomplete and that one part was circulated without context by others.
Orok also said he never intended to hurt anyone, nor did he have any intention to insult Islam or the Prophet Muhammad.
Sabah Star chief Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has also asked Orok to apologise for the alleged statement, claiming that such statements were not part of the party’s political style.
Several groups have lodged police reports following Orok’s alleged statement, including Sepanggar Umno Youth and the Coalition of Sabah Muslim NGOs Council (Concerns).
The Selangor chapter of Malay rights group Perkasa also lodged reports by its branches throughout state, including in Klang, Kapar, Serdang, Selayang, and Kelana Jaya.
