GEORGE TOWN, May 15 – Penang signed a three-year RM5.8 million deal with Infinite Acquisitions Sdn Bhd today that aims to return the once-dead Sungai Pinang to pristine conditions.
At the signing ceremony between the state and the company, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the firm will rely on the infinitesimal Quantum Persistent Reflection (iQPR) technology to improve the water quality of the river.
“The iQPR technology was introduced in 2010 at Sungai Pinang to improve water quality from Class Four to Class Three and Two during a trial project under the ‘One River, One State’ programme by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID),” Lim said.
A Class Four river is considered a dead river where no marine life survives, while Class One is for rivers with crystal clear water.
The so-called iQPR is a river rejuvenation technique that uses quantum physics-based high technology processes to reduce pollution is water and soil.
Lim said the project will cover the whole length of the 3.5km river and also other rivers connecting to it such as the Sungai Jelutong (2km) and Sungai Mati (1km).
“This project will eliminate the unpleasant odour from the river and also improve the water quality to Class Two,” Lim said.
He added that the technology is simple and cost-effective which does not require costly infrastructural changes and if the project proved successful, the state will consider expanding the same project to other rivers in the state.
Infinite Acquisitions Sdn Bhd is collaborating with its technical partner STS Solutions Sdn Bhd, which is also the provider of the iQPR technology, to treat and clean up the Sungai Pinang.
Lim said the state is committed to cleaning up the rivers in the state as per the state’s cleaner, greener Penang goal and urged Penangites to cooperate by refraining from dumping solid waste into the rivers.
