KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Snatch theft victim Wong Cheng Yong, 22, is still in coma following the assault by four robbers while on his way to classes at the Sungei Wang Plaza last Saturday morning.

The scene at the University Malaysia Medical Centre was sombre as his parents and brother were still waiting to speak to him.

The brother, who declined to be named, only said that Wong was still in critical condition and suffering from inflammation of the brain. He declined to give more details.

Wong suffered severe head injuries when the four men on two motorcycles attacked him in Jalan SS25/9 Taman Mayang.

The incident happened in an alley between shophouses and terrace houses at 7.15am. The road is usually used by residents to get to the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit station.

The suspects hit Wong on the head with a motorcycle lock he put up a struggle and clutched his bag tightly.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said the witness who made the report said he saw the four men attacking Wong with the motorcycle lock.They fled after realising his bag only contained hair styling clay and other make-up tools.

“We have yet to speak to the victim because of his condition. We are interviewing witnesses around the area to get some leads.”

Also on the same day at 6.15am, another woman became a victim of snatch theft but she was unhurt.

Police are investigating if the crimes were committed by the same suspects. 

Wong’s case is the fourth within a week in that area.
