PARIS, Sept 21 — The lion first appeared in Chanel haute joaillerie in 2012 and makes a comeback in a new jewelry collection that includes pieces in yellow and white gold with diamonds.

All of the pieces pay tribute to the majestic animal, a symbol and emblem of Venice, a city that was very dear to Gabrielle Chanel, as well as being the representative figure of the designer’s astrological sign.

The lion, the fetish animal of Gabrielle, alias Coco Chanel, was much more than a mere symbol to the fashion designer.

Not only was it the symbol of her star sign, Leo, it also represents an important period of the designer’s life when she discovered Venice and the city’s gold lions for the first time in 1920 following the death of Boy Capel, the love of her life.

Yellow and white gold, diamonds and pearls

The new jewelry collection is comprised of a number of pieces in either white or yellow gold that showcase the expertise and creativity of the fashion brand.

Two new styles are present: the “Lion Arty” and the “Lion Pépites”.

Among the standout items in the collection is the “Lion Perles” necklace in white 18k gold set with 202 brilliant-cut 1.4 carat diamonds and 49 cultured pearls and the “Lion Pépite” necklace in white 18k gold set with 246 brilliant-cut 1.7 carat diamonds.

Rings, bracelets, earrings and other necklaces complete the “Sous le Signe du Lion” haute jewelry collection by Chanel. — AFP-Relaxnews
