BEIJING, Sept 7 — Shaolin monk Shi Liliang has been training to run on water for 10 years.

On Thursday, he managed to run 125 metres across water cheered on by hometown crowds in Quanzhou, China, breaking his own previous record by five metres.

Strictly speaking, Shi isn’t really running on water per se, but is aided by wooden planks roughly one-centimetre thick that form a floating platform on the water.

Nonetheless, it’s still no easy feat because he attempted and failed the same stunt five times before finally succeeding.

Whatever the case may be, it’s all for a good cause. Shi said that he hopes the attention garnered will help raise tuition money for underprivileged students.
