EAGLE-VAIL, April 17 — A marijuana vending machine believed to be the first of its kind has been installed for consumer use in the Herbal Elements outlet in Eagle-Vail, Colorado.
The Zazzz Automated Marijuana Vending Machine features radio frequency technology (RFID) that checks users' driver's licenses to ensure the product is only distributed to legally qualified individuals.
The device, nicknamed “The Green Machine,” reports all activity in real time to Altitude Organix medical centre, meaning that purchases are monitored in real time.
“The company has been at work for the past year identifying and working with a vending machine manufacturer that has the technological background and capability to exclusively deliver the Altitude Organix 'Green Machine' — designed specifically to serve the exploding cannabis industry in the 21st Century,” reads parent company Tranzbyte's website.
The brand, which hopes to eventually roll out one of the machines in every state where the law allows it, intends to launch a free iPhone and Android app that will let customers pre-order cannabis from the machine.
The news comes as the USA becomes increasingly accepting of cannabis for medicinal use, now legal in 20 states.
“Unless you've been away on another planet for the past several years, you couldn't help but notice that the politics surrounding the use of cannabis-related products in the US for medical and adult use is shifting toward acceptance on the condition that the herb is regulated and taxed,” explains Tranzbyte's President David Gwyther. —AFP-Relaxnews
