NEW YORK, Oct 7 —  Spain and England dominate a list of top 10 restaurants in the world based on the reviews of TripAdvisor users, with El Celler de Can Roca outranking them all.

In TripAdvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice awards for best restaurants around the world, the triple Michelin-starred restaurant in Girona, Spain outperformed 353 fine dining establishments to take the top spot for its “outstanding,” “brilliant,” “sublime” cuisine.

El Celler de Can Roca, helmed by a trio of brothers, is also currently ranked the second best restaurant on the planet by organizers of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

The TripAdvisor ranking is determined using an algorithm that takes into account the quantity and quality of reviews for restaurants worldwide over a 12-month period.

“The Travelers’ Choice restaurant winners have won over the TripAdvisor community with their outstanding food, service and ambiance – the perfect ingredients for a memorable fine dining experience,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor, in a statement.

El Celler de Can Roca has been lauded for elevating fine dining to a multi-sensory experience that not only engages the eyes, nose and palate, but also memory and emotions with a culinary sleight of hand.

Signature dishes include a salad of sea anemone, razor clam, cucumber and seaweed in escabeche.

Tying with Spain for three addresses on the list is England, which snagged the second spot for Midsummer House in Cambridge.

After Spain and England, France landed two restaurants on the top 10 list, while Chicago’s Alinea was the sole US eatery to crack the ranking.
