BEIJING, Aug 24 — Because pear-shaped pears and round melons were getting old, a Chinese entrepreneur decided to create molds that allow gardeners with green thumbs to grow Buddha-shaped pears, square watermelons and cucumbers in the form of hearts.

The concept is simple, and the result quirky: While the fruit or vegetable is still young and small, gardeners simply encase them in plastic molds and watch as they fill out.

Have a pear tree? Psych out your neighbors with chubby mini Buddha heads dangling from the branches.

The molds, which are made in China, can also create heart-shaped apples, tomatoes and watermelons, star-shaped cucumbers as well as square-edged melons — a form that makes for easier cutting.

Fruit Moulds ship worldwide and range from US$1 to US$18 (RM3.16 to RM57). — AFP-Relaxnews
