PETALING JAYA, Jan 19 — Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is hoping new models will help it sell 209,000 vehicles this year or 2 per cent more than its 2017 achievement.
Although last year’s sales represented a dip from 2016, President and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said the momentum from the Bezza’s introduction helped it narrow the gap and retain its national sales crown.
Commenting on the the new Myvi has got over 36,000 bookings since November last year, he said over 11,000 units have already been delivered.
"We expect more registrations moving forward, as most of the customers who placed orders last year wanted their cars delivered this year," Aminar said.
He said the second national carmaker was doing its best to cut waiting times, especially for the 1.5L variants.
“Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, our manufacturing arm is currently working overtime to ensure deliveries are made within an acceptable time frame," he said adding that Perodua.
Aminar said that the increase in demand this year will also benefit production, with an estimated 215,334 units to be produced at both its manufacturing facilities this year compared with 200,146 units produced in 2017.
Perodua has two vehicle manufacturing companies. Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd assembles the new Myvi and the Alza, while Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd handles the Axia and Bezza.
Aminar said all of Perodua's after-sales businesses have showed growth last year on better customer awareness regarding the need for reliable maintenance.
“While we look to further increase our sales this year, we are also aggressively growing our after sales business to meet with the expected increase in the numbers of customers moving forward,” he said.
