NEW YORK, June 27 — With mid-year sales under way across a number of prominent online retailers, “Nier: Automata,” “The Sims 4,” “Mass Effect: Andromeda,” “Dead Cells” and “Northgard” gain chart positions, with “Grand Theft Auto V” surviving a fortnight of community scrutiny and “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” staving off all comers, discounted or not.

Like “ARK: Survival Evolved,” “H1Z1: King of the Kill,” “Rust” and “DayZ” before it, “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” has become a fixture in 2017’s Steam bestseller charts since its release in March.

Such is the appetite for this US$29 (RM124.39) last-man-standing battle royale game, in which up to 100 players parachute onto an 8 sq km island strewn with weaponry and equipment, that yesterday, it remains top of the Steam and Humble Store charts, despite sales being in full swing across both sites.

The future of OpenIV, a popular unofficial enhancement for perennial bestseller “Grand Theft Auto V,” is safe again after publisher Take-Two, having initially issued a takedown notice, agreed to tolerate alterations to the game’s singleplayer mode: it is still taking action against mods that interfere with the multiplayer mode “Grand Theft Auto Online.”

Engrossing life-simulation title “The Sims 4,” first released in 2014, demonstrates its enduring appeal with a discount-friendly chart topping performance on GameStop, while early 2017 big studio releases “Nier: Automata” and “Mass Effect: Andromeda” are also buoyed by sale prices as are indie hits in action game “Dead Cells” and Viking land strategy “Northgard.”
