NEW YORK, July 10 — The life of Neil Harbisson is like something out of a sci-fi novel.
He was born with achromatopsia, a rare condition that leaves 1 in 30,000 people completely colourblind.
After convincing his doctors to implant an antenna onto him, Harbisson now possesses a new sense: the ability to hear colours.
In this video that was released as part of “The Connected Series” by Samsung, he takes you through a day in his life and brings you into an entirely new world.
Perhaps the most poignant part is when Harbisson talks about our perception of race.
He says, “I used to think that humans were black and white. Since I hear colour, I’ve detected it’s completely wrong.
“There’s no black skin. People who say they are black are actually very, very dark orange. And people who are white, aren’t white. They are actually very, very light orange.”
