NEW YORK, Oct 21 — After recently slashing the price on its smart data-tracking toothbrush, Beam Technologies is now offering a product that transforms any old toothbrush into a sensorised device.

Soon to be available for pre-order via its website, the Beam Brush Bag will sell for US$19.99 (RM63) and comes in the form of a small adhesive accelerometer that you can attach to any toothbrush or flossing device. Release date is yet to be announced.

The sensor also connects to an app, so data junkies can track their dental hygiene habits, such as frequency and duration of their daily brushing.

Plus, the new app offers brushing games and reward incentives for kids, and users (in the US at least) can receive discounts on dental insurance and consumer products.

The sensor is compatible with Android 2.3, iPhone 4S and newer systems for both. It also contains a replaceable coin cell battery, which the company says should last for about one year.

Back in 2011, Green Goose developed a similar concept with sticker sensors designed to be placed on medicine bottles and toothbrushes to track your habits.

Other techy toothbrush innovations include the German-made Emmi-dent, which claims to be the first toothbrush to use ultrasound to get your pearly whites squeaky clean, while reducing the wear and tear on your gums and enamel.
