GEORGE TOWN, Jan 20 — National singles player Liew Daren who has decided to part ways with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) feels dejected for not ending his “relationship” on a winning note.

Liew Daren who was hoping for a happy ending before saying goodbye to his association with the BAM, was disappointed with his performance after losing to Thailand’s veteran player Boonsak Ponsana in the first round of the Malaysia Masters Badminton Grand Prix Gold at the SPICE Arena, here today.
“I am disappointed with my performance today,” he told reporters. “I failed to adjust to the court condition since I only arrived in Penang on Monday. I didn’t have the right feeling.”
Liew Daren, 28, who was once regarded as the best player to take over when Datuk Lee Chong Wei retires, lost 10-21, 15-21.
He said his decision to leave the BAM was following a lack of progress in his play for the past two years. Liew Daren who won the Poland Open last year hoped a change in “environment” and decision to enter the professional field on his own, would bring about a positive change.
“I am hoping for a change in my fortune — on court — as I move into the professional world on my own,” said the player who has yet to sign for any club or sponsor. — Bernama
