KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 — Former world number one and National badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei feels teammate Iskandar Zulkarnain can go further if he worked extra hard in training and competition.

He also praised the improving performance of the 24-year-old player this year and hoped Iskandar would not give up easily as his improving performance could land him a berth in the Thomas Cup team next year.

Chong Wei representing Petaling Jaya Badminton Club easily beat Iskandar 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 in straight sets at the Purple League Badminton Championship at the Sentosa Arena Sports Centre in Jalan Klang Lama, Petaling Jaya.

The competition was Chong Wei's first meeting with Iskandar who represented Petaling Badminton Club.

“Iskandar’s performance is getting better this year, I hope he is more enthusiastic in training to progress further. To me, Iskandar himself knows what he wants, he is not young anymore. I noticed that his determination this year is different.

“The coach may be able to help up to 20-30 per cent only, the rest depends on what we want,” he told reporters at the end of the competition here, today.

“He (Iskandar) should not be contended with being the third seeded singles player in the country but push himself to the limit.” — Bernama
