PETALING JAYA, Dec 8 — FA of Malaysia (FAM) must have sufficient security for the Malaysia Cup final between Selangor-Kedah on Saturday.
The final is expected to draw a full house at Shah Alam Stadium and FAM security committee deputy chairman Datuk Osman Salleh said a decision on how many personnel needed will be made at a meeting tomorrow.
The national body also did not disclose how many tiers of inspection will be implemented before fans are allowed into the stadium, stating “it will be tight”.
Based on past experience, high profile matches have frequently been beleaguered with problems.
The AFF Cup second leg final between Malaysia-Thailand last year saw some fans scaling the high fences to get into the Bukit Jalil Stadium, resulting in over congestion with fans left to sit along the staircases of the stands.
This year, the World Cup 2018/Asian Cup 2019 qualifier against Saudi Arabia had to be abandoned after 88 minutes when fans threw smoke bombs, flares and missiles onto the pitch and VIP stand.
Osman assured all bags will be checked prior to entering the stadium.
“We also urge fans to not invade the pitch after the final whistle,” he said.
The FAM organising committee decided yesterday Kedah and Selangor would each receive 30,000 tickets.
“10 per cent will be sold online (www.tickethotline.com.my) and there will be 2,000 tickets for children, with both teams getting 1,000 each. Tickets will be sold at the respective states on Thursday, while online ticket sales start tomorrow (Wednesday),” said FAM deputy president Datuk Afandi Hamzah.
The final could also boast a big screen screening for fans at Malawati Stadium, while the screens inside the stadium would also be screening the match.
Singer Faizal Tahir will perform before the match.
