PETALING JAYA, Aug 17 — Chaos!
That’s the best way to describe the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress' (MTBC) annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday.
Datuk P.S. Nathan retained the post of president he has held since 1974.
But his victory led to some “angry” scenes when challenger Tan Sri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahim and few delegates left the AGM as a sign of protest.
Nathan defeated Mohamad Noor 43-0.
Noor claimed a few Kuala Lumpur members and one from Perak questioned the neutrality and validity of the scrutineers appointed by the management committee.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary general Datuk Sieh Kok Chi and Datuk Low Beng Choo were the appointed scrutineers.
“The scrutineers role was to endorse and check on the validity and eligibility of the nominations and proxies.
“However a nominated councilor from KLTBA (Kuala Lumpur Tenpin Bowling Association) challenged the integrity of the two OCM scrutineers,” said Noor.
Nathan then asked the councilor to use a more appropriate word.
“You can’t question the integrity of a person if they come in as neutrals,” he said.
“They interrupted the AGM, knowing they have no votes and wanted it to be declared null.
“I later put it to vote and all the members, except some who left, voted for the AGM.”
The new office bearers will be in office until the next elections in 2018.
Only the secretary general post will be appointed by the president at the next council meeting.
The post is held by Cheah Ban Cheng.
