KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The Harimau Muda A national football squad will face a daunting task in their attempt to regain the SEA Games gold medal in Singapore in June. They are drawn with defending champions Thailand in Group B.

The Twitter feed by the organisers said in the draw held at SportSG Auditorium in the Singapore Sports Hub today that the squad are also pitted against arch rivals Vietnam, together with Laos, Brunei and Timor Leste.

Singapore are drawn in Group A with Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and the Philippines.

The 28th SEA Games football matches will be held at the Jalan Besar Stadium and Bishan Stadium.

Malaysia emerged champions at the 26th Games in Jakarta, beating hosts Indonesia 4-3 in a penalty shootout as well as in the Laos Games in 2009 after a 1-0 win over Vietnam.

Games officials also made the draws for volleyball and water polo.

The Malaysian men volleyball team are drawn in Group A with Thailand, Myanmar and the Philippines, and the women in Group B with Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Water polo will be played in a round-robin format with only five teams participating. Malaysia are seeded fifth in the men’s category, and fourth in the women.

The teams in water polo men, in order of seedings, are Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia, and women Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. — Bernama
