KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Michelle Koh and Kelly Tan emerged as the best Malaysian finishers of the 2014 Sime Darby LPGA Malaysian Golf Championship which concluded at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Bukit Kiara, today.
The two professional golfers shared joint 49th position with five other players with identical two-over-par 286 scores after four rounds.
For their feat, Michelle and Kelly pocketed US$6,688 (about RM22,000) each.
Michelle had put on an impressive performance on the final round with a five-under-par 66.
“I could narrow in my focus a lot better, so are the putts and the good hits,” said the 23-year-old Kuantan lass who only turned professional in March.
In 2013, she emerged as the best Malaysian amateur at the competition.
“I can see the difference based on the scores. I’ve just started working technically and I am looking for better improvement in future,” said Michelle, who scored a 10-over at last year’s competition.
Meanwhile, Kelly who teed off from the 10th box, had to encounter two bogeys on the third and ninth hole but recovered it with three birdies in the second nine.
“That hole just didn’t treat me good this week. I bogeyed (the par-4 third hole) four days in a row and just doesn’t seem like my kind of hole.
“I thought I handled myself pretty good. It is my first year back home playing as a professional. I knew there was a lot of pressure and kept telling myself to go out and enjoy myself,” she said.
The other four Malaysian professionals in the competition ended at the bottom of the leaderboard with Aretha Pan in 69th placing, Ainil Johani Abu Bakar (70th), Jean Chua (72nd) and Michele Low (73rd) from the 75 playing field. — Bernama
