KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Filmmaker Loh Din Yung's He Sang A Dirge has won the US$1 million (RM4.73 million) investment from local film production company SunStrong Entertainment.
Loh was one of top 10 finalists in the Open Category for the Scam Prevention Short Film Contest initiated by SunStrong Entertainment.
The finalists were given an opportunity to submit a film proposal to SunStrong Entertainment, where the winner gets the US$1 million investment.
In a statement, SunStrong Entertainment said He Sang A Dirge is inspired by actual events that are based on a fraudulent chain of tuition centres in Malaysia, which offers fake degrees as a scheme to recruit tutors.
"Although known for its high student enrollment rate, the chain has a dark side unbeknownst to many, making the gripping script worthy of anticipation," the company said.
SunStrong Entertainment said it was walking the talk on the investment by strongly supporting local creators and further increasing awareness of scams among the masses.
According to SunStrong Entertainment founder Jment Lim, their ultimate goal is to draw more people’s attention to scams, bringing about a safer society.
