LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 — The first trailer for “Stonewall”, a gay rights drama starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jeremy Irvine has been released.

It tells the story of the 1969 police raid of the Stonewall Inn in New York's Greenwich Village that became one of the defining moments of the gay rights movement.

The movie directed by Roland Emmerich, focuses the narrative on a fictional character named Danny (Irvine), who moves to New York after being kicked out of his home and finds a family within the gay community — including regulars at the Stonewall Inn, among them Rhys Meyers’ character, Trevor.

“Stonewall” is slated for the Toronto Film Festival in September.
