KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia were lower at mid-afternoon today due to weaker buying demand across-the-board.
At 3.01pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,771.07, down 1.23 points, from last Friday's close of 1,772.3, after opening 1.95 points better at 1,774.25 this morning.
On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 599 to 221 with 348 counters unchanged, 614 untraded and 52 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.42 billion shares worth RM851.32 million.
A dealer said sentiment in the local bourse was dampened by weaker performance of most regional bourses, as well as, lower global oil price with the international benchmark Brent crude down 0.1 per cent to US$52.11 (RM222.30) per barrel.
Among heavyweights, Maybank declined one sen to RM9.39, Petronas Chemicals fell five sen to RM7.35 and CIMB declined two sen to RM6.33, while TNB and Public Bank were both flat at RM13.80 and RM20.08, respectively.
Of actives, China Automobile eased 1.5 sen to one sen, AirAsia X was unchanged at 41 sen and Careplus rose four sen to 33.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index was 27.43 points lower at 12,634.15, FBMT 100 Index shed 23.17 points to 12,271.19 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 42.6 points weaker at 12,881.86.
The FBM Ace fell 76.34 points to 6,310.54 and the FBM 70 declined 83.31 points to 15,062.19.
Sectorwise, the Plantation Index was down 9.34 points to 8,055.12, the the Finance Index decreased 8.66 points to 16,491.2 and the Industrial Index eased 3.07 points to 3,272.86. — Bernama
