KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia turned lower at mid-morning due to weak buying demand across the board.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) lost 0.13 of-a-point to 1,772.17 from last Friday's close of 1,772.3.

At 9am, the index opened 1.95 points better at 1,774.25.

On the broader market, losers led gainers 451 to 256, while 321 counters were unchanged, 754 untraded and 52 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 803.97 million shares worth RM348.17 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank were flat at RM9.40 and RM20.08 respectively, TNB added two sen to RM13.82, Sime Darby rose one sen to RM9.34 and Petronas Chemicals lost eight sen to RM7.32.

Of actives, China Automobile declined one sen to 1.5 sen, Careplus was four sen better at 33.5 sen and AirAsia X gained half-a-sen to 41.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index was 9.15 points lower at 12,652.43, the FBMT 100 Index shed 8.35 points to 12,286.01 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 21.1 points to 12,903.36.

The FBM 70 was 38.26 points lower at 15,107.24 and the FBM Ace fell 24.43 points to 6,362.45.

Sectorwise, the Plantation Index was down 8.62 points to 8,055.84, the Industrial Index increased 8.4 points to 3,284.33 and the Finance Index declined 6.1 points to 16,493.75. — Bernama
