KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — The weakening ringgit is affecting talent sourcing including attracting local talent overseas, an analyst said.

PwC Strategy & (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd senior executive director Edward Clayton said attracting talented people had become more difficult as the country was seen as less attractive due to the weakening of the local currency.

“It is hard to persuade talented people to come to work in Malaysia when the ringgit is down,” he said at the 18th Malaysia Strategic Outlook Conference 2016 here today. He was one of the panellists at the conference.

Clayton said another hurdle in attracting talent to Malaysia was the tax structure. Individuals saw the tax on income as a less attractive feature for working in Malaysia. This was in contrast with some countries in West Asia, where there was no tax.

The one-day conference, themed “Coping with Uncertainty — The Way Forward in Difficult Times”, assesses key trends, strategic challenges and critical issues facing Malaysia in the coming years. — Bernama
