KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Upbeat sentiment from overnight gains on Wall Street spurred buying interest across-the-board on Bursa Malaysia today.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed at an intra-day high of 1,839.55 points, up 13.87 points, after touching an intra-day low of 1,825.73 points.
Market breadth was extremely positive with gainers outpacing losers 586 to 232, while 280 counters were unchanged, 538 untraded and 27 others suspended.
Total volume soared to 2.01 billion shares valued at RM2.11 billion from yesterday’s 1.58 billion shares valued at RM1.78 billion.
Heavyweights such as Kuala Lumpur Kepong which surged 98 sen to RM23.44, were seen leading the top gainers list, with PPB Group soaring 54 sen to RM15.30 and Petronas Dagangan appreciating 48 sen to RM20.42, in tow.
For other heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM9.70, Tenaga Nasional bagged 4.0 sen to RM13.12 and Public Bank was 2.0 sen higher at RM18.58.
Among active stocks, Sumatec Resources was unchanged at 34 sen, while Efficient E-Solutions added 2.5 sen to 35.5 sen.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index appreciated 82.22 points to 12,750.27 points, the FBMT100 Index rose 78.41 points to 12,394.28 points, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was up 93.39 points to 13,181.67 points.
The FBM 70 advanced 30.88 points to 13,927.12 points and the FBM Ace improved 85.53 points to 6,501.28 points.
The Finance Index surged 132.77 points to 16,758.39 points and the Industrial Index rose 8.2 points to 3,216.93 points.
Main Market volume expanded to 1.44 billion units valued at RM1.97 billion from 1.14 billion units valued at RM1.67 billion recorded on Tuesday.
Turnover on the ACE Market increased to 511.33 million shares worth RM133.1 million from yesterday’s 360.08 million shares worth RM100.4 million.
Warrants fell to 51.3 million valued at RM6.19 million from 67.44 million valued at RM8.92 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 111.62 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (229.09 million), construction (55.2 million), trade and services (622.04 million), technology (101.08 million), infrastructure (15.96 million), SPAC (135.72 million), finance (51.54 million), hotels (2.69 million), properties (95.8 million), plantations (20.98 million), mining (111,000), REITs (6.88 million) and closed/fund (8,500). — Bernama
