KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed higher today on upbeat sentiment, driven by gains in regional bourses. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,823.15, rising 4.29 points, boosted by British American Tobacco (BAT), Kuala Lumpur Kepong (KLK) and Batu Kawan.
The benchmark index moved between 1,815.35 and 1,824.37 throughout the day. BAT increased RM1.44 to RM69.90, KLK added 90 sen to RM21.98 and Batu Kawan gained 54 sen to RM18.28. Among active stocks, PDZ Holdings edged up 2.0 sen to 27 sen while Sumatec Resources rose 2.5 sen to 35.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank slipped 2.0 sen to RM9.68, Public Bank edged down 4.0 sen to RM18.60 and Tenaga Nasional rose 6.0 sen to RM13.06. Gainers outpaced losers 633 to 230, while 255 counters were unchanged, 517 untraded and 11 others suspended.
Total volume rose to 2.29 billion shares valued at RM1.85 billion from 1.88 billion shares valued at RM1.77 billion recorded last Friday.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 51.07 points to 12,690.11, the FBMT100 Index added 43.62 points to 12,328.16 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index surged 72.12 points to 13,095.05. The FBM 70 increased 105.05 points to 14,023.74 and the FBM Ace gained 152.86 points to 6,456.16. The Finance Index declined 52.06 points to 16,620.85, the Plantation Index rose 173.37 points to 8,317.35 and the Industrial Index shed 8.74 points to 3,740.
Main Market volume rose to 1.59 billion units valued at RM1.69 billion from 1.43 billion units valued at RM1.64 billion recorded last Friday. Turnover on the ACE Market increased to 632.09 million shares worth RM151.11 million from 342.7 million shares worth RM111.85 million last week.
Warrants went down to 60.29 million units valued at RM6.47 million from 91.72 million units valued at RM9.87 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 108.11 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (213.11 million), construction (54.37 million), trade and services (829.82 million), technology (84.16 million), infrastructure (10.9 million), SPAC (112.81 million), finance (49.01 million), hotels (6.4 million), properties (91.32 million), plantations (91.31 million), mining (76,500), REITs (3.77 million) and closed/fund (10,000). — Bernama
