KOTA KINABALU, July 26 — Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) Sabah branch has lodged a police report against a contractor who allegedly charged a fee on applicants applying for houses under the 1Malaysia People-Friendly Housing Programme in the Sook state constituency on July 9.
Based on initial information gathered from some of the applicants, the contractor collected a fee right from registration for a house under the programme, signing of the sales and purchase agreement and handing over of the keys for the houses.
The applicants claimed the contractor charged RM500 for registration and an additional RM2,000 for agreement signing and handing over of the keys, SPNB said in a statement today.
To avoid confusion, the SPNB representative in Sabah has made a police report at the Keningau police station.
Police said the complaint would be investigated to avoid more people from being cheated.
SPNB said the said contractor has never been registered as the panel of contractors with the company and SPNB has never offered any 1Malaysia People-Friendly Housing project to the contractor.
Also, the SPNB has never appointed any representative from outside to implement any housing project under the programme.
SPNB invites applications through a dedicated line which can be accessed only by elected representatives.
People interested and are eligible to apply for houses under the programme can approach their respective elected representatives without being subjected to any charges.
On the delay in completion of the Taman Apas Permai housing project in Tawau,
SPNB said the project faced technical hitches and non-compliance to local authority’s terms and conditions.
“Nonetheless, the monthly meeting to discuss the progress of the project is being held continuously and the work progress report was supported in the monthly meetings.
“The contractor has agreed and has given the commitment to complete the remainder of the project over the next eight months,” SPNB added. — Bernama
