Malaysia records 5,020 new Covid-19 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — Malaysia today recorded 5,020 additional Covid-19 cases today, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

This brings the total tally of Covid-19 cases so far in this country to 2,673,019 cases.

As of noon today, an additional 4,525 Covid-19 cases recovered, which means that there are now 96.6 per cent or 2,581,395 cases who had recovered.

In additional information given by the Health Ministry, the 5,020 new Covid-19 cases reported as of noon today saw 98.3 per cent or 4,933 cases in the less severe categories 1 and 2, while 1.7 per cent or 87 cases were in the more severe categories of 3, 4 and 5.

The majority of today’s new cases or 5,003 were locally transmitted with 4,784 Malaysians and 219 non-citizens, while the remaining 17 cases were imported cases with 14 Malaysians and three non-Malaysians.

As of noon today, 428 cases required treatment in intensive care units (with 359 being confirmed Covid-19 cases and 69 suspected, probable or cases under investigation), with 237 patients requiring respiratory support (159 confirmed cases, and 78 suspected, probable and cases under investigation).

As of today, 13 new clusters were recorded, bringing the cumulative total of Covid-19 clusters reported so far in the country to 6,005.

With 5,760 clusters having ended so far, there were 245 clusters still deemed active as of noon today.
