KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Malaysia busted yesterday’s all-time high in a single day with 317 new Covid-19 cases today.
All of today’s new cases are locally transmitted.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said active cases are now at 1,735 cases.
He also announced one new Covid-19 fatality today, a 57-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.
“He was experiencing a cough, loss of appetite and had a cold since September 10. On September 24, he had difficulty breathing and was admitted to Semporna Hospital and then referred to Tawau Hospital on the same day.
“He was sent to the internal care unit needing the ventilator and was later found positive on the 28th. His condition deteriorated and he passed away yesterday at 11.44pm,” he added.
From the 317 cases, 303 cases were Malaysians while the rest were non-Malaysians.
“From the total infected today, 155 cases were from Sabah with 35 coming from the Bangau-Bangau cluster, Benteng LD (10), Laut (three), Joo Hwa (two) and Buang Sayang (one) with four cases detected from community screenings.
“Of the 102 cases in Kedah, 97 were from the Tembok cluster, two returnees from Sabah, two from the new Bah Lunas cluster and one from the Bah Ketil cluster,” Dr Noor Hisham said during his media briefings from Putrajaya today.
Selangor saw another 32 new cases, 15 of them returnees from Sabah, 12 from the Jalan Meru cluster, three from the Jelok cluster and two from close contact tracing.
In Terengganu, there were nine cases, seven Sabah returnees, including one from close contact tracing.
In Penang, there were three new cases. Two were returnees from Sabah and one new patient each from the Tembok and Jelok clusters.
Sarawak had three cases who were all returnees from Sabah while Putrajaya had two cases of similar backgrounds.
The death toll now stands at 137 with 121 recoveries today bringing the total number of recoveries to date to 10,216 cases.
