PETALING JAYA, May 25 — It’s been a quiet week or two at Malaysia’s smallest state, Perlis, since the 14th general election on May 9.
So quiet that people from the state with three parliamentary seats decided that brewing some jokes about the size of the state, which is 821 km², will be the best way to shed some spotlight on it.
What started as a conversation between three friends in the afternoon, turned into the most trending Twitter hashtag as of midnight.
Okay, let's play the game. #perlisissosmall ......

It did not take long before other Malaysians jumped onto the #PerlisIsSoSmall bandwagon.
#PerlisIsSoSmall people tweeting about it more than the total population of Perlis. 😂

The state is clearly “so small” that even a joke about it had to be shared with its neighbouring state, Kedah.

Not to forget the Twitter user who is always on hand with facts and the one who cannot take a joke.
Guys, I don’t think we need to insult a whole state just bcoz their politicians are stupid. Let’s not make #PerlisIsSoSmall a trend

How small is Perlis?
— Hazman Husni (@hazman92_) May 24, 2018
They have 1 McD, 5 KFC, 3 Maybank branches, no cinema, no airport, total population as recorded in 2015 is 246,000 and the amount of registered voters for #GE14 is 150,221 and the size of Perlis is 317 mi².#PerlisIsSoSmall
All this social media drama was brewing during the period of another drama, which saw none of the nine Barisan Nasional state assemblymen attend Datuk Seri Azlan Man’s swearing in as mentri besar.
Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail was reportedly disappointed with their actions as only three Pakatan Harapan and two PAS elected representatives were present.
Perlis had been the only state yet to swear in its mentri besar nearly two weeks after election, which led us to our tweet of the day:

They should have a Menteri Kecik instead.
BN won 10 of the 15 Perlis seats during GE14 to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
