KUCHING, May 24 — Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg thanked Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today for his assurance that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will restore the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Thank you lah. I say thanks to Datuk Seri Anwar because he... sort of willing to listen on the question of MA63,” the state Barisan Nasional chairman told reporters when asked to respond to Anwar’s comments in interviews with Oriental Daily and The Borneo Post.
The PH de facto leader said the pact is committed to enhancing the powers of Sarawak and Sabah through the devolution of power from an over-centralised federal government.
However, he also cautioned that the empowerment should not also empower corruption.
State BN had earlier snubbed an offer by Sarawak PH on the state’s autonomy and the devolution of power from Putrajaya.
The state coalition, which is considering leaving BN and forming a new coalition of Sarawak-based parties, insist that state PH was not in a position to make any offers on the matter.
