KUCHING, Feb 7 — The number of flood victims in Sarawak rose to 4,602 as of 4pm from 4,524 as of noon today.
Sarawak State Flood Management Committee Secretariat spokesman said Samarahan recorded 1,782 evacuees, Serian (1,192 people, Sibu (597 people), Mukah (95 people), Bintulu (648 people), Limbang (280 people) and Sarikei (eight people).
All the evacuees are housed at 25 relief centres, seven each in Samarahan and Serian, two each in Sibu and Bintulu, three each in Limbang and Mukah while in Sarikei remained only one relief centre.
Meanwhile Sarawak Education Department in a statement said 42 schools were closed due to floods and 11 schools were used as relief centres.
A total of 5,380 students, 677 teachers and 249 support staff were affected in the flood-hit areas. — Bernama
