KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has started to fasten safety nets to catch falling litter at 72 People’s Housing Projects (PPR) in the city.

The installation will be for 494 blocks and DBKL will bear all expenses, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was quoted by New Straits Times (NST) as saying.

The minister’s was responding to last week’s tragedy where 15-year-old S. Satiswaran died from a chair that was thrown from the upper floor of a PPR flat in Pantai Dalam.

“Although the boy’s death is the first fatal incident, there have been numerous instances of residents being injured by items, thrown from upper floors,” he was quoted saying.

The NST report also cited that DBKL will consider imposing higher penalties on those found guilty of such acts.

Tengku Adnan also said that of the 72 PPR identified, 13 were deemed crime hotspots involving drugs, theft and social problems.
