PUTRAJAYA, Jan 10 — A 59-year-old senior executive director of a company linked to the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project will be in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) custody until January 15.
Magistrate Fatina Amyra Abdul Jalil approved the six-day remand application filed here this morning, to facilitate further investigations into the project.
He was arrested at the MACC headquarters here yesterday at 8.45pm after he was called in to give a statement in relation to the investigation.
The suspect’s lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh said his client has been co-operating with the commission since January 9 of this year and that he is innocent.
It was reported that the Penang undersea tunnel project, worth RM6.3bilion, was awarded to Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd) in 2013.
The project also includes a paired road on the island that will connect Tanjung Bungah to Batu Ferringhi and later to Teluk Bahang, Tun Dr Kim Chong Eu Expressway to Air Itam and Gurney Drive to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.
