KOTA KINABALU, June 30 ― The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a passenger boat in Kota Kinabalu waters and arrested its skipper early today for violation of regulations under the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department Enactment.

MMEA Kota Kinabalu director First Admiral (Maritime) Adam Aziz said the 37-year-old skipper was held in the 4.40am incident for not wearing a safety jacket and it was found that the name of the skipper was different from that on the boat licence.

“An examination of the boat led to the recovery of a tube and materials suspected to have been used for taking drugs, apparently by the skipper,” he said in a statement.

Adam said the skipper was brought to the MMEA Sepanggar jetty for further action.

No passengers were on board the boat at that time. ― Bernama
