MELAKA, June 26 — Flash floods early today on the second day of Aidilfitri forced the evacuation of about 100 people from Kampung Bukit Tambun and Kampung Bukit Balai in Alor Gajah near here.
Seventy of them were moved to the Bukit Tambun community hall and 33 others to the Bukit Balai community hall, said Melaka Civil Defence Force deputy director Major (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim.
He said heavy rain from about midnight last night caused a river to overflow and flood the two villages at 3.45 am.
Kamarulsyah, who is also an officer of the Melaka Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, said the number of evacuees did not include those villagers who had moved in with their relatives and friends. — Bernama
