KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The Hawk 108 fighter jet which disappeared from radar yesterday has been found near a village in coastal Chukai, Terengganu, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) confirmed today.

In a statement, the RMAF said the fighter jet’s wreckage was discovered near Kampung Yak Yah at 10.27am today, after search operations resumed at 7am.

“RMAF is in the midst of extracting the wreckage,” it added.

An investigation panel led by the RMAF’s Lt-Col John Sham Alagarsamy with three other officers is also on location to continue with their probe into the disastrous incident that killed the plane’s two crew members: Major Yazmi Mohamed Yusof, 39, and Major Hasri Zahari, 31.

The Hawk fighter jet departed the RMAF base in Kuantan, Pahang at 11am yesterday. Contact was lost 30 minutes later and the bodies of its crew were found at 2.30pm the same day, some 53km north of the airbase.
