KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — MCA Youth has created an interaction group dubbed ‘Female’s Information Group’ on Facebook specifically for women who frequently use taxi service alone.
Its vice-chief Nicole Wong Siaw Ting said the group would enable the members to share safety information and the dos and don’ts for women when using taxi service.
She said the initiative was also aimed at preventing more women from falling victims to rapists and robbers especially when using GrabCar, Uber and taxi services.
“So, it is important for us to spread the message and useful tips to them about personal safety when they are riding in GrabCar, Uber of taxi,” she told reporters here today.
She said apart from sharing useful tips with solo female passengers, the interaction group was also a platform for women to discuss and share their knowledge on martial art for self-defence.
Wong also called on the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to urge all Uber and GrabCar companies to install SOS button in their vehicles to help female passengers in the event of emergency.
“Besides, all taxi, Uber and GrabCar companies should also ensure that their drivers did not have any previous criminal records before approving their offer of service,” she added. — Bernama
