KUANTAN, June 15 — The remains of the two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Hawk 108 pilots, who were killed in the aircraft mishap in Chukai, Kemaman, in Terengganu near here, arrived at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital’s Forensic Department at 5.10pm today.

Also at the Forensic Department were Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed and RMAF chief General Datuk Seri Affendi Buang.

The remains of Major Yasmi Mohamed Yusof, 39, and Major Mohd Hasri Zahari, 31, arrived in two ambulances, after the bodies were taken out of the jungle marshland area in Chukai, via helicopters.

Yazmi was from Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur while Mohd Hasri was from Felda Lui Muda, Bandar Baru Jempol, Negeri Sembilan.

It is understood, RMAF was making arrangements to bring Mohd Hasri’s family, who are staying in Labuan, Sabah, to Kuantan while Yazmi’s family is staying here.

However, currently the compound of the HTAA Forensic Ward is only crowded with army officers and personnel while the late Yazmi’s family are placed in a special room at the hospital’s emergency unit. The post-mortems will be performed tonight.

Both were confirmed to have been killed after the Hawk 108 aircraft was believed to have crashed in jungle marshland in Chukai, this morning.

Their bodies were found at 2.30pm today, about 53 km from the Kuantan RMAF base, still strapped to their parachutes.They were found at a distance of 20 metres from each other.

This morning, RMAF confirmed the Hawk 108 aircraft went missing north of here on the Terengganu-Pahang border after losing contact with it at 11.30am today. — Bernama
