KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — The Indian Muslim community will not be sidelined from the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB), the action plan to develop the Indian community in the country, said MIC president, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said this showed that the party is still the representative of the Indian Muslim community.
“Indian Muslims are also part of the Indian community and those deserving will not be excluded from the blueprint (MIB).
“MIC is a party which emphasises inclusiveness. We do not single out any Indians based on religion as the community is also part of the party’s strength,” Dr Subramaniam told the press during a breaking-of-fast event held for the community at its headquarters, here today.
The president also reminded Indians that the Indian Muslim community had contributed a lot to the country’s economy and in Tamil literature.
Dr Subramaniam also acknowledged the role of Indian Muslims in uplifting the Indian race ever since the party’s inception.
“There have been representatives from the Indian Muslim community since the early days of MIC and these people had played a major role then.”
“And our relationship with this community is also very strong, thus at the same time to remind them (Indian Muslims) that MIC is also their representative,” he added.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, said this was the second year the party had organised the breaking of fast ceremony for the Indian Muslim community.
The event which was jointly organised by MIC and the Malaysian Indian Muslim Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MIMCOIN) also witnessed the party handing over grocery and food items to some 100 less fortunate Indian Muslims.
Also present were MIC deputy president Datuk S.K Devamany, MIC central working committee member and Education deputy minister Datuk P Kamalanathan and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M Saravanan, who is also MIC central working committee member. — Bernama
