SEPANG, June 7 — A logistics company director was charged yesterday with submitting false sales tax declaration on contact lenses worth RM2.88 million two years ago.
Rizan Jantan was produced before magistrate Norul Fitri Hamdans, and 21 counts for false submissions were read to him by a court interpreter.
He pleaded not guilty.
According to the charge sheet, tax on the products was RM311,052.75, and the 46-year-old submitted declarations amounting to RM29,494.03.
Rizan was also charged with falsely declaring 10,817 boxes of imported contact lenses when 129,818 were brought into the country.
The offences were alleged to have been committed between January and March 2015.
“Rizan’s client paid him the complete amount required for the shipment of the goods, but the accused failed to disclose the correct amount when filling out Customs declaration forms,” said Customs Department Commercial Fraud Unit investigating officer Nurul Aida Johan.
Mohd Roezamir Mohd Rozman and Mohd Hatta Safar prosecuted for the Customs Department while Rizal was unrepresented.
Rizal was released on a RM28,000 bail in one surety and ordered to surrender his passport to the court.
Case remention is on July 20.
