PETALING JAYA, June 3 — A Malaysian medical student was killed in a cycling accident in Edinburgh, Scotland on Wednesday.

Multiple reports said that Scottish police had identified her as 23-year-old Soh Zhi Min from Puchong.

According to The Scottish Sun, Soh was knocked down while riding her bike on Princes Street near its Lothian Road junction in the Scottish capital.

She was rushed to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but later died.

It is understood that her bike wheel got stuck in a tram track causing her to fall off and into the path of a tour mini bus.

Scottish police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican confirmed that Soh was a JPA scholar at Edinburgh University in a statement on the Facebook page of the Umno overseas students’ bureau (BPLN), which he heads, today.

“Zhi Min was a JPA scholar who was pursuing her fourth year in Medicine at the University of Edinburgh,” he said.

Reezal also expressed his condolences to Soh’s family and said the bureau would render assistance to them.

“My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends for their loss. I have also personally contacted her mother to express my deepest condolences, and to assure her family that we will assist to the best extent possible during this difficult time,” he added.

Meanwhile, The Star Online reported that officials from the Malaysian High Commission in London met with representatives from Edinburgh University and local police over the incident.
