GEORGE TOWN, May 15 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested three more officers from the Pusat Zakat Negeri Pulau Pinang (ZPP) to assist in the investigation over the misappropriation of funds, The Star Online wrote today.
“The MACC has also called on three other ZPP officers and two other individuals — a businessman and a contractor — to have their statements recorded today,” Penang MACC director Datuk Abdul Aziz Aban said in a statement.
The three men, aged between 33 and 49, were arrested at around 4.30pm today.
This follows the arrest of a 50-year-old Datuk from the ZPP office last week allegedly over misappropriating tithe money, including approving an annual scholarship for one of his children.
His remand, along with another head of a ZPP department, have been extended for another four days.
11 people, including staff and contractors, have been detained by the MACC following a probe that began last December.
