PETALING JAYA, May 14 — A band of youth groups called Anak Muda Malaysia concluded today its first ever congress by passing 13 resolutions to improve the lot of young people in Malaysia.
Mostly touching on tertiary education, rejecting racism, looking after the rights of the Orang Asli and finding ways to bring out the best in “mat rempits”, the group ended its two-day event on a high note with the representation of more than 200 people nationwide.
Key motions brought by DAP Socialist Youth to reject racism in the country and by the #BebasAnwar movement to eradicate draconian laws in the country received a resounding voice of approval from the delegates.
“The 13 motions passed today will be included in our declarations and we do not want this to be just a declaration as we hope before the next congress, we would have been able to achieve some of them,” one of the judges in approving the motions, Mandeep Singh of Bersih, said in his rounding up speech.
Student activist Adam Adli of Demi Malaysia, in his speech, also urged delegates to work together in achieving the resolutions.
“It is no point that we come here every year talking about the same thing if no effort is shown in achieving our resolutions,” he said.
